JOHNSON BROTHERS "DEVONSHIRE" TABLE

We are now in for our long winter season.  For many of you, your spring comes much earlier than here in Colorado.  It won't be long and the Valentines Day decorations will appear but I thought I would wait a little longer and set the table with my Johnson Brothers "Devonshire" multi brown transferware.

Speaking of brown, it is very brown now that our snow all melted. It was so cold last night, I walked in the door and lit a fire in the fireplace.  A fireside table would have been a cozy idea.

 I am so excited because we spent hours and hours on computer problems and issues over the holidays.  We are finally straightened out and ready to enjoy blogging again. Having a printer that actually works like it is supposed to is also nice.  My goal this year is to be able to post much more often.  It's so much more fun when things work too! (many of you left comments here that you were glad my computer got fixed - it didn't - we had to get all new!)

I saw a teapot that matches this set of dishes on eBay for $400.00.  Needless to say, I won't be buying it and can get along fine with my little birdie plain white teapot.  You never know when you will stumble across something you are looking for!

THE WINTER WINDOW

Taking tea in  2014 will be just as lovely - if not more lovely than it was in 2013!  I think hot tea always tastes the best when it is cold outside and it certainly is that.  Sitting here by the winter window we can admire our recent snow - so nice that it covers the brownness of winter. 

 Now that Christmas is all packed up we know that winter will be with us for a while so let's enjoy all our hot tea opportunities.

I am sharing this small English teapot (or could it be a coffee?) that is perfect for tea for one or two.  (I later sold this though)

 The English cup and saucer is called "Lavender Lady".  The teapot is 1930's -40's Art Deco Style with fruits and roses by K Tunstall.  Both have a gold filigree background.  I have seen pieces like this before on some of my favorite blogs.  Have you noticed pieces like this while out antiquing?  

My other cup and saucer with the pansies is an English Tuscan.  I am finding these from time to time and love the brand.

We had a snowy day all day Saturday.  After seeing pictures on the news I need to say that this was nothing like you folks in the northeast just experienced!

I have baked us something too!  Are you hungry - good - you are!

A ROYAL TEA TIME WITH THE SNOWLADY

A ROYAL CUP AND SAUCER FROM 1939

I am so excited to share this post with you because today we hooked up our new computer and amazingly figured out a few things.  Windows 8.1 is definitely more challenging so let's see if I can pull this off!  I am not the brightest person in the world but I just try things until something works.

I want to share a cup and saucer I recently found at a local antique mall.  It is of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth - the Queen Mum.

As you can see, the Snowlady agreed to be part of this photo shoot and I am also sharing a Spode plate with Victorian ice skaters that I recently found while antiquing.  Please join the Snowlady at the extra chair here and enjoy yourself a cup of tea.  Instead of taking down the tree today - it took us all day to work on the new computer.

Here is some history about my new commemorative cup and saucer:

1939 - KING GEORGE VI AND QUEEN ELIZABETH 

VISIT AMERICA

 I did some research and got so excited 

when I saw this information about the King and Queen's Visit to America in June 1939. This cup and saucer is about 74 years old. 

  I wonder who owned it and how they acquired it before I purchased it.

This visit in 1939 was the first time that a reigning monarch came to America and at the invitation of Franklin D. Roosevelt.  The trip included a visit to Canada first and then to New York City and Washington DC and then back to Canada.   I don't have any other commemorative cups and saucers but this one is now in my collection.

The Queen lived to be 102 passing away in 2002.

Now, how about a nice Orange Slice Cookie to go with your cup of tea.  Here is what you will need to make these:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and mix these: 
 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, 1/2 cup shortening, 2 cups sifted flour, 1 Tsp baking soda, 1/2 Tsp salt, 2 eggs
Now set this aside!

Now mix this:  14 oz pkg orange candy slices, chopped, 1/2 cup sifted flour, 1/2 cup uncooked oats, 1/2 cup coconut, 1/4 cup water

Add the 2 mixes together and drop by tablespoon onto a greased cookie sheet.  Bake 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
