Strawberry Charlotte Russe
The Dowager Countess had it right when she said
"It seems a pity to miss such a good pudding".
I decided to make some Strawberry Charlotte Russe. I noticed several recipe variations online and decided to put mine in little glass sherbert dishes. If you have been watching Downton Abbey - you know all about Charlotte Russe from season three. Here is my version which is super simple!
I am also sharing a lovely old glass sawtooth cake stand that I found last weekend while doing the flea markets in Fort Collins. I didn't have a small one like this - so that is my excuse for buying it!
You might also enjoy looking at the "Best of Bliss" special edition by Victoria Magazine 2013 as they have a chapter of Elegant English Berry Puddings!
I also found the cup and saucer on the left
to add to my collection of pink English
ones to mix and match.
*If the strawberries are summertime sweet - you can skip the 1/3 cup of granulated sugar!
#2 In a deep medium bowl, whip 2 1/2 cups of whipping cream with 2/3 cup of confectioners sugar till stiff. Save back 1/2 cup of this (after the whipping) for topping embellishment
Mix the cooled strawberry mixture together with the whipping cream
#3 Line each sherbert dish with 6 pcs of split lady fingers and spoon berry mixture in the middle. Take the 1/2 cup reserved whipped cream and embellish tops - also embellish with pieces of strawberry.
On Downton Abbey I'm glad they stayed and had their pudding. It would have been such a waste not to. Your pink teapot is gorgeous and so is your new tea cup. Thank you for hosting.

ReplyDeleteYour photos are so pretty today, Bernideen. The pudding does look good. Hugs, Deb
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tea party, Bernideen! Your setting is just gorgeous. I love all the pretty pinks and flowers and your recipe looks delicious. I'll be giving it a try soon. Can you tell me, however, where you found Lady Fingers? I've looked for them before for a recipe and can't find them. We live in a small cowboy town though so it's possible they're just not in high demand here!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day!

What lovely photos and the Strawberry Charlotte Russe looks delicious. I have fond memories of making a charlotte russe with my hubby (for a dinner party) when we were first married.
ReplyDeleteYour pinks are beautiful today! Sorry, I was a little late with my link.
ReplyDeleteI love the individual servings of the "pudding". Fun memories, too of the great moment during Downton Abbey!
ReplyDeleteI was so glad Violet said what she did! I was relieved they did not leave the tea. I also loved the look of the room they were in. Gray and cream, with those beautiful red roses on the table. It was stunning!
ReplyDeleteYour tea table today is also very beautiful. What gorgeous tea cups! So pretty and feminine in pink.
I would love to try a Charlotte ruse too. Thank you so much for sharing the process with us.
Hugs,
Terri

I love the cake stand ! That would be a good enough reason for me to buy one.Cake stands are so versatile in decorating and for table-settings.
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of family that would love this pudding, and since we have so many berries growing here, it is a recipe worth bringing out when the berries are ready to be picked.

Hi Bernideen,
ReplyDeleteI feel like the Dowager when I imagine to have tea on your pretty table. Each item is so beautiful. The Charlotte Russe looks very nice in the glasses. Thats a great idea because it looks so messy when a part of the big Charlotte Russe is already served. So everybody has her own dessert. Thank you for sharing this pretty tea time, the recipe and for hosting this sweet event.
Best greetings, Johanna
How lovely-lovely-lovely! Still have yet to watch my first episode of DA, and I can't wait to get with the program, literally. A friend is going to lend me her DVD's so I can get up to speed!
ReplyDeleteBernideen, I love Downton Abbey and this dessert looks so delicious! Love your beautiful teapot. I have a large sawtooth cake stand that was given to me years ago by a friend. It is one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
