TIME TO RELAX

A pile of magazines has been accumulating lately on a chair at the kitchen table.  Time just flies by, so this morning I thought I'd take a peek at some of them.  If you get English Home Magazine you know that at this time of the year they publish an extra Christmas "booklet" full of recipes and ideas for the Holidays.  This is my 5th year to receive the booklet which I just love and look forward to reading. Of course, it only comes at this time each year.

I have said this so much lately, I apologize but I wish our Thanksgiving was in October like the Canadians.  November 27 is just so late.

I purchased my turkey last night and have to decide what all I want to make but for sure Sweet Potato Casserole with Pecans and Coconut on top.  Many Americans pull out their Christmas decorations on Thanksgiving Day afternoon.

Please pour yourself a cup of tea and let me show you some wonderful Holiday ideas in these publications.

  1. Hello Bernideen,
I too love to get that magazine this time of year. It is brimming over with wonderful pictures and ideas. Your lacy pillow is lovely. I imagine you made it yourself? Your posting is simply charming and I love the doves huddled together in your header. Thank you for hosting and enjoy your day.

    Blessings,

  3. I will have to look for this issue of The English Home since I don't subscribe. I've known for a while that some people put up their Christmas trees at Thanksgiving, but I actually read of two or three folks (on Facebook) who put up trees last weekend. I think that's a bit early!

  4. Hi Bernideen...I used to get that magazine and loved it as well. I ended cutting down on a few...the stacks were too big! Lol! Love your cozy nook with the transferware. We should indeed start a movement to move Thanksgiving! Really too close, this year especially. Thanks for hosting.

  5. What a perfect setting filled with lovely things. I understand exactly what you mean about timing and the holidays. I do not like to feel rushed through Thanksgiving but it's hard not to especially when we have 4 weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas not 5. I don't like to be rushed through Christmas either. I hate feeling like just because the selling season is over so is the holiday. Nuts to Madison Ave! Thanks for hosting! Have a lovely week.

  6. I too wish we had more time between these two big holiday celebrations. I always think of January as a time for rest and recuperation. But while it is a bit of a challenge it is such a happy time!

  8. Oh, Bernideen I completely agree with you. How nice it would be to have our Thanksgiving in October - after all it was supposed to be HARVEST SEASON!

Then we must scramble all to heck to try and cram All Things Christmas in just a couple of weeks. Not a fan.

I ADORE that little acorn hat wearing cloth dolly - so so cute. Your entire lovely tea is just perfect.

I have never heard of that magazine - will have to keep my peepers open.

    Thank you for hosting! hugs.

  12. Hi Bernideen! Your tea is lovely this week. I really like the picture with the bird stained glass window in the background. I agree that Thanksgiving is way too late this year. It just condenses the busy Christmas season even more. Thanks for hosting, and have a great week!

  15. I am enjoying all the lace and autumn prettiness of your tea table Bernideen.
Many of us dream of hosting a traditional style Christmas gathering and what better place for inspiration than a British publication!
We always had Christmas pudding at home after the turkey but today people seem to want finger sweets.
We're having my 94 year old friend this year, just the 3 of us since family events will occur earlier and I know she will appreciate it if I make the pudding.
Thanks for hosting us for tea each week.

  19. This is a beautiful fall tea table with the "Woodland" by Spode china. I really enjoyed viewing the publications. Your talk of turkey and casseroles is inspiring. I have been absent for a few weeks for our beloved 12 year old collie became deathly ill just days after we brought home a new collie puppy. We have nursed her back to normal with the help of our vet. I will be able to comment again and hope to start training our puppy and thanks again!

  20. Dear Bernideen,
the stunning thing on those magazines is the time, when they produce the photos. Last year I got an order to send stuff for such photos for a Christmas issue in March! Anyway, its always a treat to browse through such Magazines. And your transferware is extra beautiful, is that Spode Woodland? I wish you a wonderful Thankgiving. Its really late in the year but after that its the right time to decorate for Christmas. LOL
Thank you for sharing and hostin this sweet event.
    Best greetings, Johanna
