CHANGING UP FOR CHRISTMAS

This Christmas, I thought I would use my Old Country Roses china to set the dining room table....but then I found this toile tablecloth in an antique mall so that changed everything.  I also found an extra piece of fabric to make a few pillows which I haven't gotten done yet.  I think Old Country Roses with all the gold on it has a rather Victorian look.  These days I am feeling a little more casual style is I am at.

Last Wednesday I went antiquing for my shop.  I found seven dark red transferware cups and saucers in three different patterns for myself.

One of the patterns was Mason's "Vista", another was Enoch Woods "English Scenery" and the other was Copeland's "Spode's Tower" .

I know some of you collect these and I have to admit you have influenced me!  I will be watching for more pieces and I especially love the Copeland's "Spode's Tower".

This year I unloaded all my bone china English cups and saucers to set up a Christmas display in the armoire.  Many years back my dear Mother In Law gave me this pre-Berlin wall nativity which came from her Adoptive German parents.  Can you see those paper palm trees - very fragile.  About 5 pieces are at the "doll hospital" to be reworked as their composition seems to be breaking down.

I hope you have fun decorating at your house.

  1. Love your decorations, you have already such a cosy christmas house.
In our country we mostly start decorating for Christmas after St.Nicholas birthday 5th December. So I'm starting now.....

  2. I think one of the things that draws me to blogging is because I love changing things up and it is fun to see other people do the same.

I have several pieces of the red & white transferware, too. I LOVE it! I also changed my whole Christmas theme this year which I will show in a few days.

That nativity set is just so precious. I have never seen anything like it. I am so glad you have it. xo Diana

  3. I like the idea of mixing different red and white transferware patterns. There are so many pretty ones, it would be hard to just pick one anyway!

  8. Change can be good. We may be pleasantly surprised. Red and white transferware is so pretty. Some of the pieces may look nice on the toile tablecloth? Your Christmas tree is gorgeous.

  9. Beautiful! My daughter uses only white plates and serving pieces. She says they are easy to mix and match with other designs. I can see that with your tablescape.

I went to my favorite antique mall last week and was happy to find two plates that I didn't have in my Friendly Village collection, both with more Spring-like designs.

Since I didn't host Thanksgiving this year (I have now given that over to my daughter-in-law), I am going to use my Friendly Village for our Christmas Eve dinner. The winter scenes on most of it is quite Christmas-y, anyway. ;)
