CHILDHOOD TEACUPS

I grew up in the 50's when it was common for little girls to collect demitasse cups and saucers.  I remember most every dime store sold these. They were mostly from Japan because this was the post World War II Era.  These came from my Mom and I kept them in a an old cedar chest.

Forget Me Nots were a popular pattern.  Sometimes a few got broken along the journey of life and some show signs of very old glue!

Because we are in the transition
 of moving,
this was a repost from 2010!

  1. Hello Bernideen... your teeny teacups are precious! I too had little teaparties as a little girl and still have several of my little teacups as well... I grew up in the 50's as well... such an innocent time, I wish we could go back to... xoxo Julie Marie

  2. What a lovely thing to collect as a child. I didn't start collecting teacups until well into adulthood. As a result of my love for teacups, though, my daughter's collection began when she was 13.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful cups.

    Have a blessed day,
    Patti

  3. Those are such sweet reminders of your childhood. My aunt's tea set became mine and the cups are gone but I still have the plates, sugar bowl, creamer, and teapot. I think, as farmers, we were "too poor" to collect fancy, pretty things. However, I did inherit lots from my grandmother!! Thanks for sharing. ♥♫

  5. I wish I still had mine! Every now and then I see a few on eBay with identical patterns that I had and have to resist the urge to buy them. One day I will give in! ;)

  6. Hi Bernideen...I have been wanting to start collecting demitasse cups and saucers...I think serving a chilled fruit soup in them would be darling! You have a precious collection...Did your mom like collecting tea things...or was it just something "inside" of you all along? I didn't wake up to the tea world until I was introduced to the loveliness of it in the 90's...sorry I didn't wake up sooner...I can only imagine the collection I would have by now! (smiles). Thanks for sharing, it's always fun to see your posts. Donna

  7. Love your teacup collection. Displaying them on the cake plate is so pretty. My mother always wanted me to collect teacups as a girl, I only got one and then now regret getting rid of it. Oh well, I have enough now to make up for it. My mother would love it.

  15. Such a nice presentation of tea cups on a cake platter. Might have to snag that idea. I wish that I had been collecting something that nice as a girl. I'm afraid that I was more a collector of frivolities.
