PINK ROSE BROCADE DAMASK FABRIC

I recently came across some fabric
which was not new but had never
been used and with 3 1/2 yards I
was thrilled to get this pink rose
brocade damask.  It reminded me
of the type of fabric ladies sewed
with in the 50's.

This was the perfect time to get out
some "rose" themed tea wares
to display.

I was able to make 2 tablecloths,
a runner for the buffet and have
fabric for tea cozies.

I made myself a standard
sized
tea cozy.

I have quite a collection - more than
I realized - of tea wares with images
of roses.

I hope you have a
lovely weekend.

If anyone is interested, these tea
cozies are available on my
Etsy site:  small, standard
and large size

A CUP OF TEA WITH LEMON CAKE

Yesterday I reset my kitchen table with
the purple toile items I sewed
last week and I also added a little
 accent topper
I haven't shared before:

I was hoping to have enough fabric to
make myself a tea cozy but I
had to literally piece scraps
 together to make one.

So now all I needed was a nice
dessert for this post.  Every recipe
 I looked at seemed disqualified
by the lack of at least one ingredient.
So,  I just made a little cake from
 staples in the kitchen.

Very simple Lemon Dessert Cake
 ingredients were:
1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup flour, 2 Tb
lemon extract, 1/2 cup sugar, 3 eggs
325 degrees for 25 minutes
I lined my 1 cake pan with
 parchment paper

Lemon Sauce: 1/2 cup of butter,
1 cup sugar, 1/3 cup lemon juice,
 2 eggs,1 Tb Cornstarch
 1 Tb lemon extract
Cook at medium high on the
 stove in a
double boiler until thick.
Stir constantly.  Pour
this over the cake when it is cool.

Please help yourself and
have some tea.  It is
British Breakfast tea.

This dessert is small and would
 probably feed around 6 people.
It is a softer type cake with an
 appearance that looks somewhat
more like a cheesecake.

I hope your spring is arriving
too as we are finally getting
warmer weather back by Friday
and we will love that!

PURPLE TOILE for "Friends Sharing Tea"

On Monday a package came with some
purple toile fabric I found online.

Yesterday I jumped right in and made
 a tablecloth
for my kitchen table.

I only got one cushion done
yesterday for my photo
shoot but you get the idea.

I love these simple white dishes
I affectionately call my
"Jane Austen" dishes.

Of course I know that several of you have
the little birdie teapot or the coffeepot.

One can always invite
more birds to
the table!

On Sunday we had a little snow and I
saw the fish in our Koi pond going back
into their "time out" position.  They had
been moving about recently but that
came to a halt with the colder weather.
I did find a few more daffodils to
add to my vase and hope to see
 more outside soon.

I hope you can join my tea related
blog party below - sorry the link didn't come out earlier - a little
 kerfuffle as Marilla
would say!

LOVE MY "WHERE I CREATE ROOM" and OTHER TRIVIA

I have been sewing tea cozies
lately which I will be selling
on my Etsy Page and also
in a booth with other things
at a local antique/flea market.

I know I already shared
my "Where I Create Room"
and realize it isn't about pretty
because it is a workroom.

About 8 weeks ago,  I started baking
 cookies for "Granny's House" which
is a Christian Ministry for
lower income children here
in Columbia.  This is what my
kitchen table looks like on
Friday's - 72 cookies:

Of course I needed to bake a pie too!

This photo is not from yesterday's
 pie but I
did make this yesterday.

If you would like the recipe:  Here
Do you love to bake too?

VINTAGE SEWING VIGNETTES for BTTCG Blog Party

I have a sewing area down in
 our unfinished basement.
 It's nothing you would show
photos of as it isn't in a lovely room.
I do like it that the messes can be left
and walked away from without it mattering.

I was doing some reorganizing and
thought I would take a few photos
of some of the lovely vintage  buttons
 and embroidery and crochet pieces
that I have found lately.

Also, I love using Susan Branch's
large blotter sized calender
in the basement where I sew.
You can write on it noting all your
projects and plans for crafting
or whatever!

Sorry though - what a tease
as I forgot to take the photo.
The cute little quilted wall pocket craft below is
something I received in a tea swap!

I also have plastic bins where I store
some beautiful vintage embroidery. I am not opposed
to buying damaged linens for that matter if I think
they can be cut up and used on sewing projects.

I thought this runner above would make something
 cute for a baby shower!

A HAPPY CHRISTMAS BED

This last Saturday I got inspired to cut up a couple  old Christmas tablecloths and make
a bed cover for our extra bed which is an antique full size.  (I later saw the red and green ck tablecloth came from Kohl's)

The red and green square table cloth was wide so I turned it across the bed and it was long enough on the sides - I just had to cut up and add another section to the top so I used another tablecloth with the snowman and Santa.  Of course this would not have worked if the fabric didn't go both ways!

If my Granddaughter was here she would love to sleep in this bed! Doesn't this afghan bring a smile?  I found it at an antique mall in Denver where the gal hadn't even priced it yet.  It was laying on a chair as she was putting new items in her booth.  I picked it up immediately and thought it was great fun!

I cut up a third tablecloth and combined two fabrics to make a couple of Pillow Shams and make one extra toss pillow!   And underneath?  I recently found a nice 100% wood green and red plaid blanket for 1/2 off in a booth at an antique mall in Denver.

Many of the booths at antique malls now have
 their Christmasy things 1/2 off.

Some of you might wonder if you can wash old
wool throws and blankets, etc. The answer is yes,
I wash them with cold water and yes,
throw them in the dryer too!

You might as well pour yourself some hot cocoa!  And enjoy a wonderful Christmas book too!

The picture on the wall above is called "Under the Mistletoe"!
It's formerly heavy bright gold frame is now vintage
white thanks to my husband who has an open mind!
