A VISIT TO MEXICO

Today we went all the way to Mexico.  This
would not be the country of Mexico but
rather the little town of Mexico, MISSOURI.
There is a wonderful antique shop there in an
old Coke Plant (yes, the soda Coke).
It is only open on Saturdays and sometimes
on Friday. We took a few moments to
drive around
and see some of the old houses:

This was the side view:

I love seeing the flowers in the yards.
This home was amazing:

Just look at all those angles!

This house below had a wonderful tower.
I can only imagine the colors it could
be painted:

An amazing tower:

And this house below is more
English Tudor style but I have
always loved it:

We also stopped in a tiny town to
take a spring peak at a
Victorian house there that I have
taken photos of before.  This is in
the town of Auxvasse, Missouri. (below)

Well, the question is did I find any treasures
on this trip?  Well, yes indeed I did.  I found
some purple transferware which I have been
looking for and trying to collect.  So at the
Coke Plant Antiques I got all these pieces
which means 65 pieces for $100.00.

I am thrilled!

I do recommend this shop especially for
antique clocks!  They have ever so many!

SCONES, ANTIQUE NAPKINS AND OLD VICTORIA MAGAZINES

It was a lovely, cold but
sunny day to pour a cup
of tea and have a
yummy scone at the
kitchen table.

Last night I baked some lovely
scones which you might like to try
Scones made with this
recipe.  I got 10 scones out of
the batter cutting them with a
medium scone cutter.  I also
substituted with buttermilk.

As I shared in a previous post, we
have been enjoying the bluebirds
outside on our deck and they are
in fact flying in to feast right now.

I pulled out a stack
of the old Victoria
Magazines which
were from past
Januarys and
I have been
enjoying them.

I want to share some antique napkins I
purchased from the other side of the world.  They are tea napkins which
means they are smaller and these
are made
from Bobbin lace:

We only have a tiny bit of snow
but we have certainly had our
share of cold weather.

If you love romantic style you will find
old Victoria magazines "your cup
of tea".

Winter is the perfect
opportunity for
Friendly Village
Johnson Brothers
transferware:

I hope you are staying warm and
having a enjoyable winter.  Winter
is a helpful time to learn something
new and I enjoy all the gardening
videos on YouTube.  You can find
so many videos about England,
Tea Time and whatever hobbies
you love.

SETTING THE TABLE WITH PRETTY LINENS

This year I have spent some time researching and learning about different
types of laces.  It has been very interesting and I have been fascinated by the older
vintage and antique types of lace.

These are some bobbin lace tea
napkins that arrived today.  They
are small and delicate. (above)

One of the types of laces I am particularly
interested in is Italian lace called
Trump de Venice.  I am no expert
and so I can be corrected.  I started
making a list and there are hundreds
of types of patterns of lace.  A site
I follow on Facebook is called the
Lace Museum. Most of what I have
learned was by following them
but of course, I know little really.

These pieces above also include a large
runner and I got them at a great price
on ebay.  They are ecru.  I washed and
starched them and ironed them.

I had purchased these
napkins below from an Etsy
site in Canada:

Often you might come upon a
booth in an antique mall that
specializes in old linens.  Such
was the case this summer when
I happened upon these below:

Perhaps I have stirred your curosity
just a little to go peruse your
linens drawers:

Years ago when I had a shop, I sold
many linens but they were all new ones.
The many types of tablecloths and placemats were mostly polyester made in China and there were tables with every size of machine crochet doily imaginable.
My only response to that now is - Yipes!

Stains?  I use Oxiclean and soak
things in the kitchen sink.  If I still
see a stain after that I pour 4 cups clean water to 1 cup bleach in the sink.  I then swish the item around in it for about 1 minute - then rinse quite thoroughly.
Large pieces are done in the bathtub.

FREEZE WARNING - NO TEA IN THE GARDEN TODAY

Spring seems to delight  in teasing
us this year.  Just as we thought our
cold weather was history we  realize
it is not because tonight there
could be a possible freeze.

I decided I better pick a bouquet
of lovely white lilacs from the side of
our house.  I am also sharing a mulberry
transferware teapot I found yesterday
in Mexico, Missouri in a darling shop
that sells clocks and antiques.  They
are only open on Saturdays but
happened to be open by chance on
Friday.

The pattern is Masons "Watteau".

It was a fun day and I did really admire
this piece of furniture.  My husband
can be seen taking this photo of it
with his phone.  It also had a hefty
price tag so we did not purchase it.

I think this weekend's cold weather
will probably be the last.  The yard
has been displaying many lovely
bulbs.  I couldn't resist embellishing
my white lilacs with more.

This is a perfect time to enjoy some
gardening books and receive some
last minute inspiration for spring.

I am not sure how a freeze would
affect the lilacs.....we shall see.

VALENTINE TABLE SETTING

My hubby and I decided to take some
days off this last week.  Our lives
are very simple and we don't travel
very much but this week we took off and went east
to St Louis one day to 2 mega size antique malls and then we
went to all 3 smaller local antique
malls on another day.

I had been thinking for a while about
looking for 2 antique oil lamps for
my dining room table.  My husband
asked if I wanted these and the answer
was "of course I do".  They came from Springfield, Missouri.

This is an area off our kitchen without
a wall separating the two called a
Hearth Dining Room.

I tried using the leaf in the
table but decided I preferred
it without the leaf. I can always
add it if needed.

PLEASE DO COME FOR A VISIT

Every now and then I will be sharing
changes in my booth at Midway
Antique Mall in Columbia, Mo:

I am located right along I-70
if you cross through the
center of Missouri going
east to west or the opposite.

With a booth (or stall) that is
only 8' wide by 13 ' deep - it is better not
to close in the center area.

I think my prices are very reasonable!

  We all have stories
of places we have been where
people just stuff those spaces too full!

As you can see I have some
lovely teapots and am selling
some I have had for years.
I just have too much myself.

Believe me - primitive is alive
and well in Missouri so my feminine
appeal is a bit of unchartered
territory.
