HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY

I have enjoyed decorating
various tables over the years
and finding green items for
a St Patrick's Day theme (though
I am not Catholic I enjoy it just for
the fun).  This little reel reflects
many such times going back through
photos from the past:

MARCH ARRIVES WITH GREEN TRANSFERWARE

With the arrival of March, I was
excited to reset the dining area table
with the green transferware that I
 have been collecting.

This is actually a Battenberg
bed cover I am using for a table
cloth which explains the deeper
drop on the sides.  The topper is linen
with brighter green cutwork embroidery.
I have two sizes of tablecloths that
my Grandmother embroidered for me shortly after I was married
56 years ago.  There are 2 sets of
embroidered napkins too.

I used some of the stained
napkins to make
a tea cozy years ago.

I find green transferware hard to find
and especially this Johnson Brothers
pattern called "The Florentine".

This covered dish
was my most
recent find:

We still had some
snow a few days
ago but we have
also enjoyed some
warmer days and
everyone is looking
forward to spring.

MY GREEN TABLESETTING AND ST PATRICK'S DAY

I purchased 2 more green transferware plates so now I have a full set.
 This was not without issues
but let's don't even go there.

I also am including a few
Easter decorations.

I have shared the tea cozy I made
from a dinner napkin already.

Perhaps you have a spring
or Saint Patrick's Day table setting
going on at your house too.

I have gotten rid of some
of my old decorations
but one must have some!

MARCH CELEBRATION OF GREEN

March meant it was time for a change
in the hearth dining area. A bouquet
was simple since the pussy willow out
front is now in full bloom.

My Grandmaw (that's what we called
her) made me this tablecloth
and napkins as a wedding gift, nearly
56 years ago.  She worked on embroidery every night.
  The thread was bright green
and there were 2 tablecloths with
matching napkins.

I recently started collecting Johnson
Brothers, The Florentine which I love.
It is an expensive transferware pattern
and hard to find since it is now 100
years old.  I don't have a set yet but will
continue to look and mix it with other pieces.

I had made this
tea cozy out of 2 of
the napkins a few
years back.
Recently I redid
my design by
removing the elastic
bottom, putting a flat bottom piece on it.  I had also added
much more polyfil batting inside.

Over in the kitchen, a decoration I
made years back: I guess I am old
school still loving crafts.

The spring came suddenly, bursting upon the world as a child bursts into a room, with a laugh and a shout and hands full of flowers.  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I am excited to say I found a little "Green Basket" bouillon cup and saucer on
Etsy.

I have 2 more Johnson Brothers green The Florentine plates coming in the mail so I will have a total of 7 plates.  Right now I can't fill the table completely with just 5.

IRISH CURRANT SCONES FOR ST. PATRICK'S DAY

I always look forward to getting out
the tea cozy I made from one of the
napkins in a linen set my Grandmother
made me 52 years ago when I got
married.  Several of the napkins were
stained over the years so I used those.

Today I set a little table for us to enjoy
our tea time down in my basement tea
room.  I have made us some Irish Currant
Scones to enjoy with our tea.

I haven't crafted much this year but
made the little decoration last year.

You might enjoy baking these scones
which were super easy so I leave the recipe
at the bottom of this post.

I found the little Dome Tea Cozy
at a mall in Kansas City last year.
It would be for a tiny teapot.

This is an old vintage shamrock apron
in the collage above.

I love these
darling personal
sized pieces for
cream and sugar.

I have to tell you that we have had a week
of rain.  It just keeps coming and more
is expected tonight.  The little birds
are all wet and this morning I saw a
squirrel climb into one of the birdhouses
trying to escape the rain.  I
will be glad when the sun comes
back out but I do remember that
our rain in Missouri would have
been snow in Colorado!

And now here are the ingredients
 for some very easy scones.

IRISH CURRANT SCONES:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line
a baking pan with parchment baking
paper which really helps to keep it clean.

Combine dry ingredients first and then add
the other items:  2 cups flour, 1 Tb baking powder, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1 tsp salt, 3 Tb soft butter, 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup sour cream, and at the end add 1/2 cup of currants

I cut these 1 1/2" deep with a medium
scone cutter and baked them for 8 minutes in my convection oven so possibly 9-10 in a
regular oven.
This recipe made 9 scones.

SAINT PATRICK'S DAY

The little stand up card above is one of
a few I enjoyed making last week.

If you would like to make some Irish
Currant Scones HERE IS THE
RECIPE from a past post.

MORNING GLORY MUFFINS FOR TEATIME

Have you ever made Morning Glory Muffins
or Hummingbird Muffins?  I love them and
with a number of recipes I noticed that
a banana and mashed pineapple are the 2
distinctive ingredients.  Chopped pecans
seem to be another popular ingredient.

For this post I am calling these
Morning Glory Muffins because I
have found the same recipe by
both names.  In the past I shared
this recipe and you can
 find Jean's recipe here
(as Hummingbird Muffins)

I have shared this tea cozy before too.  It
is made from embroidered napkins that my
Grandmother made for me over 51 years ago.
I use this for my Saint Patrick's Day cozy.

So here at my window I have set up a little teatime time for us.  I am using a couple of spoons and one of my little silver sugar nips as they are called.  Also, these spoons came
from England and I was thrilled to get them.

These are commemorative spoons of
Queen Victoria's reign and Diamond
Jubilee in 1897.

It was hard to get reflections off those spoons.

Of course, we are drinking
Irish Breakfast Tea!

Outside things are changing.  We just
had 2 days of rain and everything
turned suddenly green.  Bulbs are coming
up and as you can see, I found a couple
of tiny daffodils in the front garden today.

I am playing this week with some crafting
and card making for Saint Patrick's Day so
here are some of the pictures I have clipped:

If you do make the muffins - I
know you will enjoy them!
