HARVEST FRUIT WINDSOR WARE JOHNSON BROTHERS

When we move toward fall I enjoy changing
my dining room table about 3 different
times with various fall toned transferware.

If you love table setting
like I do, you will understand
that this is a hobby.

This set pattern  is Johnson Brothers
 Harvest Fruit Windsor Ware.
Over the years I have added to
my set but I rarely see the matching
teapot.

I love this tablecloth so much, I think I have been showing
it to you over and over.  It is a vintage alencon French
lace and a favorite of mine.  The napkins are point
de Venice from Italy.

We have enjoyed such colorful zinnias
and they will last quite a while.

We had the 2nd dryst August on record and our
lawn turned brown.  I have been watering and
it is coming back a little better.

I have watered my garden quite a bit this
summer.  The hydrangeas must have water
to bloom and look revived.

I wish I had more of this velvet
 fabric but years ago
I found just a scrap.

I hope you have time to do some
fall decorating to enjoy!

SEPTEMBER BRINGS CHANGE

Last week I decided to move forward
with my fall table setting.  It was fun
pulling out various pieces of
transferware and I also decided to
wash everything as I went along.

The zinnias in our front yard have
been so lovely during August and
now in September.  I grew them from
the seeds I had last year and once again
I will save seeds for next year.

The tablecloth is an old Quaker one
that was given to me and formerly belonged to a wonderland lady who
is in Heaven now,
Marie Smith.

My plates are Johnson Brothers
Windsor Ware Harvest Fruit.

Our front yard faces south so it gets the
most sun.  I have noticed the back yard
which faces north can be a challenge
for some flowers.  I guess after working
in the garden these 8+ years here I
now see how these things work.  For
example, one wouldn't want vegetables
in their front yard but I have found
I can tuck some tomato and pepper
plants here and there in order
to have some.

Hope your September
is going well.  We are
enjoying and loving cooler
temperatures.  It feels so
wonderful.

THE OLD MILL TRANSFERWARE FOR FALL

It's fun getting out the autumn colored
dishes for fall.  Yesterday we had
some senior couples for lunch so
that was an opportunity to change
the table up after washing the
linens and resetting.

The plates ( below left) are
part of a "Historic America"
Johnson Brothers series.

I have had a number of ladies tell
me they keep their dining room table
set all the time.

When out antiquing, I still come
across other old punch bowls
just like mine (above).  Each time it
causes me to recall the day I found
 mine at the Salvation Army.

THE TROUBLE WITH ME

THE TROUBLE WITH ME

Bernideen Canfield

September 19, 2023

The trouble with me is extensive

I want things that look expensive

I look at antiques and see “past” expense

Which thrills my heart most extensive.

You see, I don’t want to see Tupperware

Or plastic things which make me glare

Or those 50’s pyrex bowls that cause a stare

Yes, let’s move on to the vintage transferware

And then at old linens I’ll take a pause

As I go through the stacks and think of a clause

There’s Grandma’s crochet she made when very old

She’s gone now – I’m here now - please mark it sold!

So, don’t show me your leather, I don’t want your chrome.

That really doesn’t set a very warm home

A lace tablecloth, etched glasses and a glass cake platter

And a buffet set with all those memories that matter.

As I squeeze in a teacup and move things around

That teapot goes nicely  – so glad it was found

As I study the display and step back to admire

I’m  thankful to God for these treasures acquired.

FALL HAS ARRIVED AT OUR HOUSE

I seem to have a lot of Fall looking
transferware so I bring it out in the
fall and it all seems to mix and match
together for this season.

The table in the dining area is set
even though no one is coming for
dinner.  I have some new to me "old
glasses" I picked up during a sale
at an antique mall.

Lately I have accumulated some
old vintage napkins that I love.

You can see one of the Heisey
etched glasses below.  I never
knew much about them but am
learning.

I have been following a site on FB
that is all about antique lace.  I
have learned some things but
never realized how many types of
lace there are or about making it.

Do you decorate for fall?  Inside
or out?

WHEN FALL APPROACHES INSIDE AND OUT

The garden has been thirsty for
 rain far too
often this summer.

I noticed a sweet bird nest tucked up in
the bittersweet:

I decided to welcome fall's soon
arrival by getting out my fall looking
transferware and setting the table.

I love the look of mix and
match transferware.

And a quilt to welcome
the season:

This year I decided to tuck a few
tomato plants and peppers
in with the flowers.
I think I will do more next year.
