CELEBRATING TASHA TUDOR'S 103rd BIRTHDAY for "Tea In The Garden"

Yesterday, August 28th is the day
that Tasha Tudor would have turned 103
years old.  The children's book illustrator
passed away in 2008.  So we are celebrating
with a little tea time in her honor.

This is probably the reason I loved this
old English Bone China cup and saucer!
Come summer, Tasha's fields are full
 of beautiful
wild Vermont lupines.

I was totally smitten with Tasha Tudor
back in the early 90's when I saw pictures
of her Vermont garden.  I dreamed of
those foxgloves she said she watered with
"goat manure tea" as she called it.

To learn about Tasha Tudor you
might like to visit HERE.

Many people love the story about
Tasha and her life for different  reasons.
I understand that because some have
farm animals and relate to her love
accordingly.  I don't have animals.  I also
don't do all the things that Tasha did but
I do some of the things.  She was interested
in lots of things and so am I.  I think she
really loved to learn how to make things
with her hands.

We are over by the pond here:

It was Tasha Tudor's garden
that left me speechless!

These little cottage pieces remind
me of Tasha and I know how she loved
tulip bulbs for spring!

I have quite a few posts from years back
about Tasha Tudor but I will only
 direct you to
this one from 2009.  Others are
listed way at the bottom of this page
under Tasha Tudor.

So this tea today is a tribute to Tasha Tudor
and her memory and life.  I have many of
the children's books she illustrated but I
enjoy the books about her simple lifestyle most:

TAKING DOWN FALL

Today is a constant flow of taking
 down fall. This is never
as much fun as getting it out!

I paused long enough to take a
photo of the little Victorian style
house I made this summer using
 Tasha Tudor's pictures:

And a peek inside below:

I hope your Thanksgiving was
wonderful
as I surely was!
I guess I better get back to work!

CELEBRATING TASHA TUDOR'S 102nd BIRTHDAY for "Tea In The Garden"

Monday, August 28 would have been
Tasha Tudor's 102nd birthday.  She passed
away on June 18, 2008 just short of her
93rd birthday.  I am in a Facebook group
called "Take Peace" which celebrates
her all the time.

In honor of Tasha, I have set a tea
table upon the deck overlooking the
back yard.  I am sure the thing I admire
 the most about Tasha
was her gardening skills
which I know has influenced
my love for gardening.

On Monday, I attended a special luncheon
given by Karen Mertens who is in the
"Take Peace" Tasha Tudor Facebook
group I participate in and it was a lovely
luncheon with tea and also a birthday cake
for Tasha - yes we sang Happy Birthday!

I first posted on this blog about Tasha
back in 2009.  I already knew about her after
seeing an  1989 article in Country Home
Magazine.  I remember when books came out
in the early 90's "about her
personally" and how everyone wanted to
read about this unique and creative
lady who handmade just about everything!
Since I sold the books in my shop, we
would just stand around and talk about her.

I had an employee years ago who
moved to Washington State and retired
there.   She joked that in her retirement she
was going to become "Tasha Tudor"
 and of course
it was funny because she was not
going to be doing that at all.

These books about her life are probably my favorites:

I am also sharing some tea cozies I

made for myself out of old vintage crochet
and linens.  I have had fun "figuring" this out
and it took me till the 3rd one to really
understand without a pattern. I have always
preferred these that draw up around the
teapot rather than the dome type that
just sit over the teapot.

 Have you
ever noticed that there were so many different
shapes and sizes of teapots?  I do think that
6 cup teapots are the most common size.
Did you know that the term "cup" when
referring to how many cups a teapot
holds, is just measured by 6 oz - not 8 oz.
That's because a teacup is around 6 oz.
A 6 cup teapot would hold 36 ozs.

In honor of this celebration of
Tasha Tudor I am going to give
away this decoupaged clipboard in a
drawing September 7th.  If you are interested,
say so in your comment.  It would make
a lovely fall decoration. The artwork on
this one is from "A Time to Keep" - November.
(due to shipping cost - drawing
 limited
 to USA and Canada)

Well, I hope you can join my "Tea In The Garden"
celebration today by sharing any post about tea
here at the bottom. (it doesn't have to be about
Tasha Tudor).  I will be taking a break from
this linky party next week September 6th!

TASHA TUDOR DECOUPAGE

Lately I have been revisiting the
art of decoupage like we did in
the 1970's.  It is a nice craft to
work on in the very hot
 afternoons here
in Missouri:

To those in the USA -
I wish you a very Happy 4th of July!

MARCH MOVES ON

March seems to be moving right along!

This winter I have kept busy doing various
projects.  I am sharing this little ornament
tag above that is Tasha Tudor's art
which I have enjoyed using to do some crafts!

Please enjoy a cup
of tea this morning!

As you can see there are leaves
 appearing on the trees
and bushes over in the woods.
I brought in some of pussy willow
 branches to enjoy:

My heart is stirred for all the folks in
the north east enduring snow now!
I saw a few flakes earlier but they
melted in the air.

Have you been keeping busy this winter
trying to "get through"?

DECOUPAGE - JUST LIKE IN THE 70'S

I have been doing something like we did in the late 60's and 1970's.
 Do you remember decoupage?

These are from Tasha Tudor's
 artwork from her books:

And these are Beatrix Potter:
