BUSY ALL THE TIME

Just like many of you, I stay busy.  Where does time
go and go?  I bake a lot but mostly we eat it ourselves
and share with family and neighbors and forget about
posting the results here.  I made Pumpkin Raisin Cookies,
then a Lemon Pound Cake, followed by Zucchini Walnut
Bars and twice I made Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
(2nd time was earlier today)

I have worked in our yard so much this summer.
We have a second pile of limbs on the driveway that
our son will eliminate this weekend.  We pruned the
evergreens up on one side of our house.

  In August
it was the 2nd driest on record so the Fescue grass
died in areas where as the neighbors Bermuda grass
moved in on both sides of our house.  This is a battle
that I hate which has gone on for a long time.   This
is one of those things you don't care about until you
are a senior and even then many don't care about.  So I
have kept my mouth shut about my complaint and
do not express my views about the lawn.

I moved some more hydrangeas bushes to the
back yard this summer.  They had to be watered
daily to survive but seem to all be fine.  I am
moving toward knowing that in the future I will
be older.  I am told that's how it works and since
I am 76 I think I better be thinking of ways to
reduce some of the work of having a flower garden.

This year I did something totally different.  I planted
tomatoes in our full sun front yard, in with the
zinnias and hydrangea bushes.  This is the kind of thing
I would criticize someone else for doing.  The results
have been tomatoes for neighbors, family and others.

Thanks for visiting my blog!

  2. I admire you for all the work you do in your garden; it is beautiful. And at 76 you are doing great! Gardening and Baking must bring you joy, and it's a blessing for your family and neighbors to enjoy what you have to share. I enjoy seeing your blog posts with all its beauty. Thanks for taking the time to share. (I think it's okay to plant tomatoes in with your flowers). ;0)

  3. A garden is difficult enough work, but when you have a whole magnificent yard to grow plants, that is a huge undertaking.
When we moved here 12 years ago, my hubby said he'd only help me build two flower beds in the front. Because he knew
I'd be getting worn out from too much probably too soon, lol. Today I know we made the right choice, but I wish I had
    what you have.

  4. I didn't get any zinnia this year, though I planted seeds. I'll try again next year. I love them so!

  6. Your yard is absolutely beautiful and comes from a love of gardening and much hard work. We downsized 4 years ago and our yard is very small but I've been blessed this year with flourishing lavender and violas in my little flower bed. Great idea to put your tomatoes in a very sunny spot and the harvest looks successful. We tried ours in a sunnier spot and they did well too. Fresh veggies are so nice. Looking forward to fall baking, especially your pumpkin muffin recipe...my favorite!

  7. Dearest Bernideen,
In this period of the year we all are far busy here too. Trying to catch the warmth of the Fall sunshine we are busy with our houseworks, with the last preserves of the year which will allow us to enjoy the gifts of our orchard and our kitchen garden during the next Winter, and with the Fall pruning outdoor, which we can do just when the weather is good.
It always lifts my heart to come and visit you here, your blog is always so welcoming and filled with joy and enthusiam, thank you.
    Have a blessed Sunday

  8. Hi Bernideen. Your garden is so beautiful. It really shows how much you love it. I know exactly what you mean about getting older and being able to keep up with all the beautiful flowers, but life happens and that is how it goes. I guess we just enjoy them while we can and take lots of pictures..Enjoy this wonderful season..xxoJudy
