Like most, I am not blogging like I did years ago. So many
just read other social media these days and especially
Instagram where things are incredibly interesting and
more effort is given to all the reels and videos.
Honestly, I go to Instagram and see such amazing homemakers
who are incredible bakers, chefs and seamstresses
The young women in particular are so capable.
Hardly a day goes by that I don't try one of the
recipes I see and find often on their website or blog
so I can print it out.
We have been enjoying lots of soups this winter.
During retirement I have loved having the time to
set our dining area table with various dishes
throughout the different seasons. As soon as Christmas
was over I was ready to see my Friendly Village dishes. I
have shared this Tuscan Mondano filet lace tablecloth
before that I found in an antique mall. It has a few
holes which I ignore.
I only have enough luncheon size plates for the table
in the red schoolhouse design. I have 2 more winter
ones that are the 10 1/2" but that's it. I do have
quite a few of the larger (buffet size) 10 1/2" in
other seasons but only see them too expensive on Ebay that
I will just keep looking for better prices. Maybe sometime.....
As you can see, this is just a luncheon size plate. If
I had any advice about Ebay or Etsy....it would be that
you must always ask how many inches something is
because they often call a plate dinner size when it
really is not.
We love that Panera Bread Broccoli Cheese Soup
so last night I was going to make some. My broccoli
was looking rather sad so I tossed it and used red
potatoes, peas and fried bacon instead along with the usual
carrots and other basic ingredients they give. It was
really yummy!
I hope your wintertime is going well.

I love your "Friendly Village" china. It certainly is "friendly" and cheerful for the grayness of wintertime. And your lace tablecloth and napkins are gorgeous. I wonder if ANYONE has a lace tablecloth that doesn't have any holes in it? It just seems to come with the territory. If you put enough dishes on top, no one will ever see them. Your soup sounds really good, especially for a cold winter's day. Regarding blogging vs. Instagram, I guess I haven't really explored Instagram that much. I never could get into the format, and I find the blogging community so friendly and it is much easier to use, at least as far as I know. I find that I spend much more time here than I do on Facebook nowadays. Facebook has become much too crowded with ads and things that I don't want to see, and oftentimes the people can be so rude.
ReplyDeleteI do hope and pray that the winter storm won't be too severe in your area and that you will stay safe and warm! We are in Florida, so thankfully there is no winter storm here this weekend, although our temperatures will drop again next week...just thankfully no snow or ice here!
Thank you again for this lovely tablescape! It is delightful!!
Beautiful photos. Very heartwarming 💕 ❤️ Warm greetings from Montreal, Canada ❤️ 😊 🇨🇦
ReplyDeleteSoup is the way to go for meals in the extra bitter cold we seem to be having. I really like the bright red school house plates. Just so colorful for winter darkness. I still enjoy when you blog and post more than just instagram, though. Stay warm and safe this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love your "Friendly Village " dinnerware, I have the same set, and always brightens those bleak winter days.
ReplyDeleteStay warm and well !

I really love your table settings. Very cozy for this colder time of year. Your Panera soup recipe adjustments sound perfect. I also alter recipes according to what I have in stock. And soup is perfect for today's 🥶 temps.
ReplyDeleteI'm unfamiliar with Instagram but always enjoy checking in on your blog. Wishing you and your husband a blessed and healthy year.
What a beautifully set table, Bernideen! I do love Friendly Village, but only have one teacup. Your tablecloth and napkins are so pretty. I’ve made two soups in the last two days for our frigid weather that we’re having right now. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteYour tablescape is really pretty. I love the over sized napkins. We missed out on the winter weather, hope yours is ok.
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful collection of dishes, linens, etc and your table and surroundings are always so lovely and welcoming. Thank you for sharing and for the inspiration. Best wishes for a warm, happy February, Virginia
