PILLOW COVER FROM GERMANY

One of the great things about blogging is the great people you meet around the world.

Take for example Johanna from Germany who can be found at her blog at Silber + Roses at

Please visit her and say hello!

This week she helped me by telling me what this old antique pillow cover says.....it is written in German so I really never knew what it said until now! I have had it for many years and I e-mailed her a note and photo and she responded!

She told me that it offers advice
 and  wisdom for a couple:

"Protect each other against grief/sorrow.
Short is the time which you are together."
"Although many years will unite you
Once they will seem to you like minutes."

My mother-in-law gave this to me many years ago.  She was adopted as a baby in Illinois by people who had come from Germany.  At Christmas, I  showed the nativity set she gave me from Germany that is over 100 years old.  My mother-in-law is now 92 years old herself!

The cover is on a guest room antique bed.

  7. Dear Bernideen,
what a nice Pink Saturday Post. To tell you the truth, I enjoyed really to see the photo of the pillow and to translate, what the words say. It is such a nice heirloom and keeps the memories to that woman who made it. I sometimes think about, who will remember me in 100 years? What will be left of my household then? Thank you very much for sharing this nice post with us.
Have a very pinky saturday! Greetings, Johanna

  20. I love what the pillow says. I also like your attitude on the loss of your diamond. There's a quote attributed to Abe Lincoln that says something like, "Most people are as happy as they make up their minds to be."
