MISSOURI CHORUS FROGS

Today's post is dedicated to the
tenacious, consistent fervor of
the Missouri Chorus Frogs!

As some of you know, we
have a Koi pond with 13
goldfish and 4 Koi:

It has a small water feature which
helps create interest and brings
oxygen to the pond plus a
filter system that the water
circulates through to keep it clean.

Unfortunately the frogs down in the creek at
the woods hear it and like it and come!

Recently, the Chorus Frogs have sounded
more like "Screaming Frogs" and I just
couldn't take it anymore.  So.....I caught them
each day in a net and took them down to
the creek and let them loose - way back there
in the creek where water stands:

However, after a day or so they
hop back up the sloping yard and
hop right back into the pond.

So I asked a few "others" for advice:

I asked Mr. Josiah too:

One particular frog always shows back up -
I think I have thrown him in the creek
repeatedly!  He hides in these rocks
when I open the patio door to
 come out to
try and catch him!

I blew this picture up so you could look
carefully at this photo to see his face:

You would not believe how loud he screams -
that is "sings" all night long!!!!

Well....the party is over as I went to Walmart
yesterday and bought a lidded bucket.  It isn't
just any bucket - it is an Emergency Evacuation
Bucket - to evacuate FROGS of course!

From now on - all frogs get taken
down the road to Gillespie Creek.

I wish them a happy life
 making "music" there calling
for girlfriends!

  1. THAT is hysterical (at least to me---probably not so much to you). I think the one hiding is a very smart frog! (maybe a prince in disguise-try kissing him to find out, would you)? Hope you get those singers moved and they STAY at their new home...and hope you aren't breaking up any happy families by spiriting Daddy away from Mama Frog. xo Diana

  2. Oh my gosh, Bernideen, who would ever think that singing frogs could ever be a nuisance? Ha ha, this post is a riot, you are such a funny lady! I'm sure as you pull frogs out and relocate them there will just be more showing up - the perils of having a lovely water feature on your property, I guess!! I love the sound of the 'peepers' at night, but the creek is at the edge of my property, not right under my bedroom window!

  3. That can not be fun! It must feel a little like the plagues of Egypt. I know I feel plagued by the groundhogs!

  7. Good luck! I have a feeling you have created a frog heaven there and others will come.

  8. They only do this during the spring mating season - toads are much worse with their high pitched trill all night. I think they realize a backyard pond is safer than a creek from predators and since I've not seen one of our frogs yet I'm wondering if the mink got them too. We have seen a couple of goldfish but they don't show themselves much after the mink gorged on their families.

  9. LOL, I had three frogs in my pond last year, luckily they moved in after mating. The chorus will subside...lol, and I'm sure they will be back.

Besides their 'Great Grandaddy' statues are there so what should they think.
Fun post, I'm pumping out and cleaning the pond tomorrow. So I may join you in a few days, LOL. Sandi

  10. We gardeners have lots of interesting experiences, don't we? I first heard the frogs here last week and they do signal spring is here! I hope you can keep them under control! Your garden is beautiful with all the signs of spring. Your outdoor tea with your violet tea set also so beautiful! Thank you for hosting Tea in the Garden!

  12. I love your fish pond and the concrete frog sitting there guarding the fish.
I think it's just so amazing they lived through the winter in that little special pond.
The frogs especially like the fish pond also sounds like

  13. I was wondering where all the frogs have gone! Great solution you came up with. We used to gig them when I was a kid and would eat frog legs. Yuck! Can't even bear the idea of it now.
