RAINY DAY BOONVILLE VICTORIANS

After going out to lunch today we drove
through a favorite part of Boonville where
the really interesting old houses stand.

The new owner of this Bed and Breakfast
(above) has renamed it "The Grand
Victorian" and there have been
 improvements to the property.

I love the flags which are
always waving here. (below)

This house (below) sold not long ago and
 has been experiencing major renovation
and soon, possible paint color change.

are the types of houses that scare my
husband to death.  He sees all the
issues and the $$$$ signs start
clicking in his head.

The brick ones
 look so "sturdy"
to me.

I have always admired the yellow Victorian
which seems small compared to some of
these others but I find houses always do
seem smaller when there are no
attached garages.
I think this house is perfect.

The owners of this house below,
have definitely done a lot
of work (or had it done).

This building is an old jail and is
open sometimes for tours but this
summer I heard that a snake got
into one of the cells.....yipes.

In the past I shared Roslyn Heights
during their Christmas tour.  It
is owned by the Missouri State
Daughters of the American
Revolution.

These are just a few photos of the
ones I took photos of and then
the last two.  The one on the right
is greatly admired but this is the
kind that my husband fears.

Boonville is a town of less than
9,000 people.  At one time their
was a historic military academy
here for young men but that is
long gone.

There are many farmers in this area
and the corn has been harvested, also
soy beans and sorghum.  We did have
a drought in August through September
so I am not sure how that worked out.

  1. Isn't is incredible the detail and amount of building materials used 200 years ago on homes this vintage. I so enjoy the detail and wonder about a night's stay in the bed and breakfast. And yes, here in our big little city, my husband cringes at the thought of renovating the huge Victorian homes and ones only 100 years old.

  2. What gorgeous homes! I am glad that someone has the $ to restore them! The smaller yellow house is my favorite as well. Maybe I am thinking of the housekeeping. 🙂

  4. Gorgeous homes from a bygone era! It's so nice that owners (new or existing) have the vision and resources to restore them. I'd really love to visit Boonville sometime. Can't thank you enough for taking such great pictures and sharing them with us.

  6. My favorite is also the yellow one. When I see the big old brick houses I think of how hard they are to keep warm in the winter and I do like to keep warm. The yellow is more me. Beautiful homes in Boonville for sure. I enjoy your trips.
