ARROW ROCK, MISSOURI

Here in Missouri there is an area of many

small towns known as the Boonslick!  That is because

salt was discovered there many years ago when

animals would go to lick the salt coming out
of the ground.  Daniel

Boone's sons had a business selling
the salt.  This week we visited 2 of
the towns in the area and today I am
sharing the town called "Arrow Rock" which
has a population of 54 people.

The shops were closed on the day after
 the 4th of July when we arrived.

We went through the museum and watched a movie.
  The area has a great deal
of history about the Civil War
and the Lewis and Clarke Expedition
during the time of Thomas Jefferson.
The Missouri River played a great
roll in the transportation of salt
from the Boonslick.

I would like to go back and visit the Lyceum Theatre
which puts on many live productions:

We were told in the museum that the drainage
 ditches such as below were
built by slaves.  I can say it was sobering
 seeing what the slaves endured:

BLACKWATER, MISSOURI

On Tuesday my husband and I drove over to

Blackwater, Missouri to visit this charming little

town.  It was not my first visit but I knew that

one of the shops was having a sale and wanted

to check out a red transfer ware teapot

that I had seen there before in January.

Unfortunately, most of the shops were closed because

some only open on the weekends and Monday

being the 4th - they had been open the day before.

Yesterday I did a post on the little sweet garden in the

center of town which I called a "Secret Garden":

On Friday, I will be sharing my purchases from

 the shop below known as "Blackwater Treasures".

She is having a sale!  We ate in a cafe 2 doors down
and the owners kids served us the food.  It was good!

The towns in the area are all part of what is referred to

as the "Boonslick" region.

Tomorrow I will share about 
the historic town of  "Arrow Rock".

FINDING A SECRET GARDEN in Blackwater, Missouri

My husband and I decided to take a drive today and visit an area where all the towns are referred to as the Boonslick area of Missouri.  We only got to 2 of the towns. 

 The next few days I will be sharing some of this local history. Many years ago, Daniel

 Boone's two sons had a business selling

the natural salt found in the area which is

why it is called the Boonslick.

Today I am sharing a lovely garden 

 in Blackwater, Missouri and to me

 it was like a secret garden.

It was right in the middle of the little 

main street between two buildings.

4th of JULY PATRIOTIC TRANSFERWARE

Today I am sharing some Homer Laughlin

 "George Washington" inspired transferware

 I found about a year ago.

  It was made in the USA too

I have mixed it with other

red transferware pieces:

I had seen one of these teapots a few years ago in Colorado but it had a broken lid

 poorly glued back together.  Patience is only occasionally  availed to me but eventually

 as I waited I found a perfect one in Denver, Colorado.

I want to wish everyone (here in the USA) a Happy 4th of July!

I am one of many who are so sad to see the values of our great country being dissolved every day
 little by little. 

 May God restore

America is my prayer.

Prayer and God have been removed from

everything possible.  It is very sad.

PROGRESS ON THE POND for "Tea In The Garden"

On Friday June 24th, a crew arrived to clean our koi pond.  As it turns out, we have no koi - we have gold fish.   We are perfectly alright with that!  The men removed  all the fish, green algae water, the monster overgrown lily and  made a waterfall at one edge so we are talking an all day project.  On Monday of this week - the fish were put back in the pond and the final touches made.

 I set up a little tea outside this morning and also I wanted to

share this sweet quilt I found recently in the tiny town
of Odessa, Missouri at the Silver Fox Antique Mall.

 The day we were there the tea room was closed so we hope
to get to go back another time to visit!

After I took these photos we went back to the

"rock place" and got a few more stones and

replaced the wood piece on top of the waterfall

with several pieces of stone.  As you

can see I have a new frog birdbath and

"thinking man frog" over to the left who I

like to imagine is pondering about "Jeremy

Fisher's outfit.   There is also a new

 snail and a turtle in the back right.

I ordered these new Campania pieces weeks ago

 to add to the ones we brought here in March from Colorado.

It seems that everything we do is taking t i m e and involves a wait!  For example, we have no sofas in our living room - and won't get them until the end of August.  We have 2 folding chairs set up there.

The plant you see below is called "water lettuce".  So far the
bunnies haven't eaten it as they are taking a toll on things
in the garden lately - especially the cone flowers, monarda,
some wild flowers, clematis and the list goes on. 

Miss Tabitha has joined the other Beatrix Potter style figurines

 in the back yard.

I knew what I meant when I told you it would be getting very

hot here in Missouri and I worked soooooo hard to get my projects done before that happened!  It was in the high 90's this week and now has cooled down in the high 80's and we

 are almost cold sometimes!
