A Very Early "TEA IN THE GARDEN"

One of the sayings I recall from my life
journey is that "change is inevitable".  On March 17th we made our final drive to our new home in Columbia, Missouri.

Another change is that we now have a koi pond.  When we were here to close on our house January 29th, I could just barely see the fish on a cold day, way down in the bottom of the pond.  We stayed here 5 days and returned to a blizzard at our Colorado home. When we came back again on March 17th with our 2nd and last truck load, I thought the fish were gone.  I told my husband "I think someone took our fish".  After a week or two and  on a warm day - they reappeared.  I finally understood.  They go down in the deepest part of the pond when it is cold.

I also noticed that in some pictures I had seen on line (from the former owner) that there were lily pads. Who took those? Well, now that it is in the 60's to 70's everyday, guess what has reappeared?  At first I thought it was a purple leaf in the pond and I tried to net it but it was attached!  Hello - anyone home?

Of course, I did not leave some things behind in my Colorado garden.   My Beatrix Potter style cast stone garden statuary were not getting left behind in Colorado.   I do think Jeremy Fisher loves his new spot near this pond.  What do you think? And his friends are close nearby.  We just dug out a huge bush that was blocking the view of the pond and I am much happier about that.  Also, I planted lily of the valley, daffodils, violas and violets as there were no flowers near the pond.

In the summer it will be very hot and humid in Missouri.  I say that in case some of you thought we were going into this blindfolded. This is why I have been busy in the yard working and racing ahead of the hot summer weather.  I know some of you told me slow down.  The former owners had a few areas of flowers but not too much.  I did find one area that was rather hidden in the lower front yard and I have been stealing the flowers from there and moving them to the pond  location (peonies, Columbines, etc.)  I also brought a box full of things with me and they are all very happy here.

See this little bird inspecting the birdhouse today?  I have never heard a bird sing like this one!  Beautiful sounds are coming!  He or she spent the entire day going in and out with little pieces of this and that.  They sang to each other all day and it was beautiful!  Several have told me now that this is a House Wren.

The planting in my old birdbath now:

This is my first "Tea In The Garden" for 2016 AND MY 94TH "Tea In The Garden" post since 2011!

I did want you to see this view from my "Where I Create Room" as I showed you this room last week but not the view outside from the room:

Can you imagine sewing here?  I think I'm in heaven!

Love the linens on the chairs, I will borrow that idea along with the birdbath with the flowers. I know you will enjoy your view out the window. Thanks for inviting me to your party and thanks for hosting.
    Happy weekend…….

  2. Absolutely, serenely charming, and you've just gotten started! What a perfect retreat---that would be my Coffee Spot every morning, and probably where you'd find me at all hours of the day and night.

The exquisite chair covers are like beautiful old friends re-met, and that tray of flowers---like an overflowing charger of the most delectable pastries. The entire setting is a feast of beautiful.

Looking forward to all the unfoldings and gatherings!

  7. Your yard is just so beautiful, my friend! I'm so happy for you, because I loved your CO backyard, but this one is so wonderful with the pond!! The little bird must be happy to be making a nest in your birdhouse, and all your statuary fit in perfectly, too. What a view from your sewing machine you have! This is the perfect house meant for you. Thanks for hosting, Bernideen. Are you going to have two parties now, or just the one?

Such a pretty setting you have for your tea already. I love the linens on your table and chairs.
Love your koi pond and the picket fence too. Your room to create is perfect. It must be fun to discover new things in your new garden and
    neighborhood.
I joined up with a previous post since I haven't had tea in the garden yet this spring....hopefully in the next week or two.

Enjoy your weekend and thanks for hosting,

  12. Bernideen, your garden is just beautiful! I liked your garden in CO but I do believe I like this one better. I love a koi pond and the plants surrounding yours really makes it special. Your Beatrix Potter friends look right at home. I really enjoyed looking at your images. I didn't link up because I don't have tea in the garden to share and I probably won't for quite some time as it's still very cold here. I think we're probably two weeks behind regarding spring coming. Even the spring peepers haven't started their chorus in the evenings yet and I always hear them the middle of April. Enjoy your weekend.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  13. Dear EVERYONE:
Please feel free to link an old TEA IN THE GARDEN as I realize most of the world is still COLD RIGHT NOW and spring has barely begun for most of you! Also, remember - the tea vignette can be on a porch, patio, deck or sunroom or even INSIDE!!!

  16. Your garden is so lovely Bernideen and the view from your sewing room is lovely also.
Your tea in the garden is such a clever and creative way to enjoy the nice summer weather.
I am looking forward to doing some teas outside and joining your blog party a little later.
It is still too cold here.
    Have a nice week. xo

  17. I love your garden statues. It's still too chilly here to have tea in the garden, though we did take a cup out last week and sit in the gazebo.

  18. I'm so glad you left me a comment about your pond today so I could come back and see it! So you inherited this pond and you are learning about it as you go along? It's so much fun. We had a huge pond at our last house and that's why we just have to do it again at this house. It's so much fun to watch the fish. As the season goes along, you'll have other birds and critters come to the pond too. We love it!

  19. Bernideen,
Thanks so much for your visits!! What a lovely post and I love your pond!! I always wanted a pond but my yard is just too small. There would not be room for anything else and I have a lot of things for the garden!! LOL!! I do not do a specific Tea post that often as time just does not allow it but when I do, I will definitely link up to this gracious party!!
    Hugs,
    Deb
