HOMES AND CHURCHES IN AUXVASSE AND MEXICO, MISSOURI

Last week we made a little trip northeast to Auxvasse, Missouri to order living room furniture.  This is a very small rural town that takes you back in time.  The "Mother" furniture company (Baumgartners) was in Auxvasse and please don't ask me how to say it.  Gina Broadus told me but now I have no idea!

This home is in Auxvasse, Missouri and it is
a sleepy little town but look
at this darling Victorian house we saw:

Their gazebo is so cute:

And three very old churches right near the tiny downtown:

As we were leaving we noticed how close this town was to another one a little north called Mexico, Missouri where Gina Broadus is from - so we decided to check it out.  It is also a small town.

Here were some of the lovely old homes of Mexico:

There were several antique shops in the downtown Mexico square area and I found several goodies at this one.  I was told he shops the famous Brimfield Antique and Flea Market in Massachusetts.

  4. I declare, you can find the most interesting, beautiful places and things!! The pictures of houses in those two little towns are simply lovely---don't you try to imagine what life would be like to live in one of those, with all the rooms and hardwood floors and staircases and art-brought-back-from-Grandparent's honeymoon in Europe?

Or what life was like in the first flourish of those stately homes, with all the calling and visiting and teas and maybe even a Tea Dance, now and then (I remember those fondly myself, and was just thinking this morning, and though they LOVE to "dress up" and do so at every opportunity, what MIGHT my granddaughters think of such formalities as gloves and lacy dresses and waltzing in the DAYTIME).

And the Porte Cochere!! Never will I see one that I don't think of my friend Karla Kay, whose rattly old house had one around on the side drive, and somehow she managed to work the words "Porta-Kashay" into every conversation she ever had. What funny, sweet memories you've kindled this busy day!

    Thank you for the largesse.

  12. Hi Bernideen, The purple house in Auxvasse actually belongs to a gal who's hair I used to cut when I worked at the salon, I just saw her at Lowe's the other day. I see you found Jefferson Street in Mexico, I always drive down that street when in Mexico.
Thanks again for the lovely after Church meal on Sunday, I have been taking the leftovers for lunch at work.
    Have a great day!

  13. Good morning Bernideen,

Love this post--small town America has been disappearing and it's so much fun to see life still go on in small towns somewhere. Love the old houses. We had a turreted Victorian in stone In northern Wisconsin --which we sadly left for better work opportunities and a more diverse population for our children to grow up in.

Great post what a fun day, you had, thanks for sharing, Sandi

Chance home is also lovely and open for a tour on certain days. It also has two lovely gardens. Thanks for sharing your beautiful day!
