OLD BIRDHOUSES FOR "Tea In The Garden"

Welcome to "Tea In The Garden"!
I have set up a little bird themed tea for us
 this morning.
I already moved the table once because
of the sun is coming on strong so we best get going.

The concrete pieces are awaiting
the arrival of a special birdbath:

A while back I saw the cutest birdhouse I've ever seen before.  It was at a local antique mall that has some clever booths.  The birdhouse looked like it was from the 50's and it was huge.  The shape was like a English Tudor Cottage painted pink.  It was.......are you ready for this?
 It was $189.00.
 Does anyone need oxygen?

Yes, I can hardly imagine a birdhouse for that price.   I couldn't get it out of my mind and I came home remembering that I had found several birdhouses lately at yard sales and a couple at antique malls.  We came up with something completely different but liked the "big" idea so we combined several different birdhouses to make a collection.

My husband never lets me paint anything because frankly, I am rather messy at it but he figured I could paint these and then we mounted them on a base.

I also want to share this darling child's quilt I got at an Estate Sale.  I had the history of the quilt and that it was made in 1949 by Fern Baltz from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. I loved that it was made the year I was born.

Can you remember these nursery rhymes?

We have a peach tree over the pond and there is a hummingbird nest in it.  There are hummingbirds all day long with robins, cardinals, sparrows, house wrens, wood peckers, squirrels and rabbits every morning and night. I am learning the rabbit's "favorite flowers" to eat.  Yesterday a huge raccoon was climbing up the bird feeder.  When he heard me come on the deck  with my camera - he took off.

I have set up a little tea table with my "birds" teapot so please pour yourself a cup and let me show you some progress in the garden.  My husband almost has the neighbor's truck loaded for the last time as this week he has taken 4 truckloads of tree debris to the composting dump.

Next week will be a special
celebration as it will be my 100th
"Tea In The Garden" posting.

  3. How clever you are, dear Bernideen, with your collection of small birdhouses to make one big one!!! I'll bet the price was right, too, and certainly no where near $189!! I always loved the charm of your last yard, and this yard in Missouri has every bit as much, if not more charm. I am so admiring all that you have accomplished. Your 1949 quilt (yes, we both share the same birth year) is adorable, and I know all those nursery rhymes by heart. Your tea is so sweet and the only thing better would be sharing it in person with you! Thanks for hosting!

  4. This scene is so charming I will be right over to join you for tea. All the little touches are nice, birdhouses, pastel pinks and blues, the quilt, etc.

  6. I love your garden, Bernideen. It looks great with your creative artistic touches. I like the birdhouses. I see you have foxglove in your garden again; you must love it (so do I!). The hydrangeas are pretty too. The endless summer (blue/pink) hydrangeas don't do well where I live so I ended up removing them and replacing them with something else. Love yours, though! I lost a birdhouse (rotted) this spring and I have been looking for another one. Seems most of the ones I've found are more decorative and while beautiful, not ones which would last well outdoors. Still looking! Love, love, love your garden and your pretty tea table.
    Blessings, Beth

  7. Surprised I was that you don't paint much. I thought for sure you would be a heavy DIYer. But your tea settings and vignettes are lovely and inspiring. Love to visit and see your garden and home as they are lovely to look at.

  8. Bernideen, your garden is looking lovelier every time I visit. What you did to get that bird house is exactly what I would have done. Great job! Love your birds tea ware; such a pretty shade of blue. Sounds like you get as much wildlife as we do. We are having problems with squirrels getting into our feeder. As soon as I get a new clothesline up that will fix them. I did not link up because mine is not a tea post per se. I hope we can get some nice weather and perhaps I will be able to set up a tea outside for your big party next weekend. Thanks for another beautiful post and enjoy your weekend.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  9. Hi Bernideen, how lucky you are to have a hummingbird's nest in the peach tree. I have one in my antique bird dome! lol I'll have to check yours out next time I come over. Soon, with your plastic containers! :) Your yard is just so beautiful, you are so inspiring! I was out digging until dark today on the back garden.
    See you at Church!

  11. I adore your pretty bird tea set, Bernideen! I've also enjoyed seeing your charming birdhouses and yesterday, I purchased 3 small birdhouses for only $2 at a yard sale. I would have passed on the $189 birdhouse too. Too rich for my blood!

  12. Bernideen, your setting is just magical! Gosh, I wish I would have know about your creative idea to merge birdhouses. I have two on posts and one was literally falling apart. I went last week and searched high and low to find a new one. Finally did, but it's not as big as I really would've liked, but still sweet. I paid, $60. $189 is a bit steep for sure! I have quite a few small ones and could have done this if I would have been as clever as you. :) Thanks for the party.
    hugs,
    Jann

  15. Well I agree...you need lots of birdhouses...not just a spendy one! But you guys are so clever, you can just create them! Love the bird chintz teaset and the linens. Perfect! Thanks for hosting and linking to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!
