AMISH GOODIES

On Thursday we drove over to the Amish
area near Clark, Missouri where there
are many rural farms selling eggs, milk,
a grocery store with all sorts if items
and lovely farmland.

Our car stayed moving so some of these
photos aren't the clearest but
you see the type of homes: white and basic in style.

There really isn't a "downtown" that is Amish
like you see in some areas but farms
had signs out telling what they sold.
The baked goods we bought were
very reasonably priced:  bread, a pie,
peanut brittle, sugar wafers and also eggs and flour
and home canned jams and honey.

We saw many school houses:

After we got home, we decided to try some
of the Amish treats we bought at several places:

I also got a chance to look at the
gifts I received at a lovely luncheon given
by a friend this week.

I sure enjoyed using my newest
Cup and Saucer named "Yuletide" which
I recently found
at an antique mall in St. Louis:

  2. As I've told you before, Bernideen - you are my hero! Your posts are unfailingly beautiful and a true 'joy for the soul' to read. And - you are consistent in blogging... which I soo admire because I'm not as amazingly organized as you. Also - I love how you bring others together. Wishing you a Very Merry Christmas... (And wishing I had made these delicious cookies earlier... so I could've shared them earlier.) PS LOVE, LOVE your photos of the Amish property, buggies, horses etc. When we lived outside of Philadelphia my husband loved heading out to Lancaster to see the Amish people!

  3. Oh it looks like you went to Clark on a good day! Some days you go and there's not much activity going on. I've never seen kids or any sign of life around the school. Lucky you! It looks like everyone was out everywhere. Great shots! I like the pond one, looks like some ice skating had occurred fairly recently. Not sure if I will see you at Church today, tomorrow or Sunday so if I don't here wishing you and Keith a very Merry Christmas in your new home and in Missouri!

  7. The Amish are very hard working and honest folks. We have a small community of them here on the Island and it's lovely to have them here.
Bernideen, I don't have a tea post this week but wanted to stop by and wish you and your family a Very Merry Christmas!

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  8. We have some new Amish communities in our corner. I understand that they have needed to spread out because there are so many. I would love purchasing baked goods from them because they are so good. I am sure that your items are very tasty and fresh. Always lovely to see your beautiful photos of tea cups, etc.

  10. Oh, how lovely to see a post and beam barn going up. Now days all you see is them being torn down, and some aluminum monstrosity being put up. Love the pics...so nice to know living off the land is 'living on' somewhere! Sandi
